Enfim, aí vai a minha resposta.
[tá em inglês, qualquer coisa me pergunta.]
The Pianist
"What do you do?I WAS a pianist".A Jewish man, surrounded by Germans, survives in World War II. "The Pianist" by Roman Polanski ticks all the boxes and tell the war history from a personal and touching point of view. The accurate storyline, the skilful make-up and the authentic costume make it a must see movie.
Set in Warsaw, Poland, this masterpiece tells the true story of Wladyslaw Szpilman (Adrien Brody), a pianist. Szpilman used to have a confortable life and a well established family. When the Germans invade Poland, his stable lifes disappears in the middle of the aggressions, the abuses of authority and all the atrocities of the war.Jews start to lose their rights and are treated like animals and even worse. Even though the history is mainly focused on Szpilman it is possible to perceive a faithful historical line of the war facts. The Star of David arm band, the German's madness and the Jewish humiliation has been told before but not as clearly as this horrifying Holocaust portrait. The German sadism and the Jewish vulnerability bring us to tears of sadness and outrage.
The make-up artist has done an awesome job. Szpilman has an unshaved, skinny and miserable face. There are bags under the eyes and his hair is all messed up. All these characteristics and the outstanding acting of Adrien Brody perfectly illustrate a man who has lost all his pride and the ability to care about his appearance.
"You can keep it. I have a warmer one", says Hosenfeld, after giving Szpilman his coat. The costume is used in this film to generate contrast. The Germans have spare clothing and more than enough to keep themselves warm. In the other hand, Jews have dirty clothes and not enough to bear the cold.
"The Pianist" is based on a true story, made by a director with first-hand experience, and it shows. This film is authentic and moving. The story, the make up and the costume all contribute to an amazing film that everyone should see in order to develop a greater understanding of the human spirit that can endure everything, even the horrors of war.
